Abstract

The reduced space available within the false ceiling (due to regulation constrains on buildings height) of the new research and teaching Center of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Lodi of Università degli Studi of Milan, despite the big amount of the required components - i.e. exhaust air extractors from 185 biohazard and chemical hoods, air ducts and regulators for variable air volume systems with huge volumes of air treated by 22 A. T. Units, additional fan-coils against exceptional heat loads in several laboratories, technical gas distribution network, etc. - , has imposed as a concept of the main technical services distribution, to be horizontal along the building roof, where all the equipments are located, feeding several uprights which eventually open up at each floor in smaller horizontal distributions. This complex and crowded system on the roof, has determined an issue with a possible and safe maintenance, which has been worked out with a metal structure resistant to wind and seism, partially covered with photovoltaic panels and expanded metal lath; this structure bears at different heights the horizontal air- type collectors, the hoods outlets, the thermal fluids pipes, electrical conduits and technical gases. Energies sustainable availability is granted by: district heating and polyvalent heat pumps, many other strategies of heat recovery from exhaust air, from water reuse and water bed use and finally solar thermal and photovoltaic.
