Abstract
The authors describe the selected methodology to address the BIM design of plants for complex structure. In particular, the example of the detailed design of the New Hospital of Treviso is shown following. The approach considers BIM as a technological evolution of traditional design. A new way of conceiving the design that is based on the virtual construction of the complex building plant. In particular, in the case of plant design, an essential element for the success of the design process is the use of software that helps in dynamic sizing of the plant networks. Among the advantages of the dynamic application of the calculation we highlight the availability of the data, the analytical modification of the virtual model and the greater speed in the management of the design variants. A further advantage in the application of the method consists in the procedure called «complexity breakdown» useful for containing analytical interferences and the size of model files. Another fundamental item is the association of professional figures of the «tradition» with the new of BIM.
