Abstract
Gas fired absorption heat pumps make use of renewable energy and can contribute to the reduction of primary energy consumption and greenhouse gases emissions for space heating and domestic hot water. However, the real efficiency of these appliances can differ from that measured in laboratory tests due to system dimen- sioning, thermal capacity of the heating system, hot water set point temperature, control system for partial loads management, and refrigerant charge. In this work, the results of the monitoring data of two plants are analysed in order to assess the differences between expected and real performances and find out the possible reasons. The analysis shows that, in one case, not only the performance is lower than expected in quasi-stationary opera- ting conditions, that constitute 25-40% of the total operation time, but also that the transient operation negatively affects the efficiency by 10-15%.
