Risparmio energetico e benessere ambientale nella riqualificazione degli edifici scolastici
Energy saving and environmental comfort to improve quality of school buildings

Abstract

Environmental comfort is fundamental in the school buildings as there is a strong relationship between thermal, acoustic and visual comfort and the learning potential of students at all levels, from kindergartens to high level schools. The improving actions for the internal environment (thermal and visual comfort conditions) are generally associated with those needed to increase energy efficiency and allow a good compromise in terms of costs / benefits. The Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), however, should take into account also the acoustic comfort that is not considered as a priority in the redevelopment interventions: the noise inside the school buildings is an important aspect that influences learning and can cause fatigue in both students and teachers. The acoustic improvement of school buildings, even if related to the interventions on the building envelope, generally involves costs and doesn't give savings or economic benefits. For a smart refurbishment, aiming not only at reducing energy consumption, but also at the global quality of the internal environment, this aspect should not be neglected, at least in the definition of general intervention strategies and in the formulation of national guidelines.
