Abstract

More often than usual, when carrying out HVAC projects, one needs to recognize which generator should be used in the light of increasing energy efficiency and consequently lowering environmental impact. In the case of air-conditioning systems with based water terminal units, energy comparisons were carried out between various types of generators. A Case Study is presented, with analysis which makes good use of the exclusive software for AiCARR members (Comparison Energetico.xls) developed by ing. Vio (Past President AiCARR) combined with a second verification software developed exclusively for the Verona site (city involved in the Case Study). The results obtained lead to the conclusion that in the cases in which electricity and methane gas are purchased at values of about 0.20 euro /kWh and 0.50 euro/smc respectively, and the cooling energy is predominant with respect to the heating energy, then the use of gas heat pumps, with an endothermic engine, are preferable compared to all other scenarios analyzed. With this article we find a design direction aimed at the office, headquarters and commercial building sector, that could recognize in gas heat pumps, with an endothermic engine, the preferable solution compared to all others. In addition, you can recognize which alternatives are available, in case the preferred solution is not implementable for other reasons. The Case Study also presents a percentage indication of the total costs related to plant construction and its maintenance. The "gas advocacy" is presented for a real case of energy efficiency improvement of a Verona office building owned by a company present throughout the Italian territory.
