Abstract

This paper deals with the study of control strategies for photovoltaic (PV) systems coupled with heat pumps for hea ting/cooling and domestic hot water production, in the presence of electrochemical storage units. The control strategies are studied from the point of view of the national electricity grid, and in particular by considering the yearly amount and instantaneous level of building's electricity import/export. As a matter of fact, the rapid increase in distributed electricity generation raises issues as for the adequacy of the national conventional distribution network, which is undergoing load conditions far different from the design ones. Electrochemical and thermal storage units, as well as proper control strategies, may help in the limitation of electricity exchange and in the consequent mitigation of stress conditions for the electricity grid. This analysis considers a residential building heated/cooled by a heat pump and hosting a battery-supported PV system, versus the PV capacity and the battery pack capacity. The results of this study show that convenient control strategies may limit the exchange imbalance.
