Building automation system in existing buildings: the INAIL building

Abstract
The building automation systems allow to manage in an unitary way the different systems inside a building, analyzing the information supplied by the various sensors installed. The report describes the work of energy efficiency improvement conducted on a 1000-worker building that hosts the INAIL main general office (Italian Workers Compensation Authority). The 20-floor tower building, located in Rome, was built in 1966 and renovated in the '90s with a project of architect Gino Valle. For this building a new automation system has been recently carried out, allowing, in addition to monitor energy consumption, to manage lighting and microclimatic parameters of working environments. The report analyzes the costs and benefits of the new system.
